Two BICS awards from two for MPS and DCUfm!

MPS is the Irish College Societies Awards Most Improved Society of 2009/10! The award marks a tremendous year for MPS, who have come on leaps and bounds since last year.

DCUfm.com won best website, reflecting the tremendous work put into the site by its creator Steve Conlon.

MPS’s Richard Geraghty, Denis McEvoy and Micheál Clesham praised MPS members for working “day in, day out” throughout the year. Denis told the crowd: “We’ve had 100s working every day with MPS, and this is what we’re going to continue to do next year!”

Congrats to Airsoft, who won DCU’s other award on the night for Best Poster.

The DCU Journalism Society was a runner-up for ‘Best new society’.

New Committee elected and Constitutional ammendments passed.

At Monday’s AGM the following people were elected to the committee of the DCU Journalism Society:

Treasurer: Niall Farrell

Trips/Ents Officer: Rosie McCormack

Congratulations to everyone that got elected and a big thank you to everyone on this years committee. Your commitment to team is what has made it so successful!

The new constitution is now online and takes immediate effect.

RTE broadcaster Bryan Dobson to address AGM.

The DCU Journalism Society will hold its Annual General Meeting on Monday 12th April from 6.30pm in Room CG12 of the Henry Grattan Building. The AGM will be addressed by RTE Newscaster Bryan Dobson.

At the AGM constitutional amendments will be voted upon. If you have any suggested changes please submit them to steve@journosoc.com. In accordance with the DCU Journalism Society Constitution all amendments will be circulated 5 days before the AGM.

Smedia Shortlists announced.

The DCU Journalism Society and DCU Media Production Society have been shortlisted for 19 Smedia Categories. Steve Conlon, Chairperson of the Society extended his congratulation to all those shortlisted, “This years Smedia shortlists are a testament to the talent and dedication of all the members of the DCU Journalism Society and the members of the Media Production Society. Our members have worked hard and there dedication has paid off, with DCU students now being placed in the top ten of student journalists and presenters in teh country. Society to host InDesign workshops.

DCU Journalism Society will host its first in a series of Adobe InDesign workshops.

The Beginner workshop will be held on Tuesday 9th March in C106 of the Henry Grattan Building.

The workshop starts at midday and will go on for two hours.

The workshop will be hosted by Steve Conlon and Dave Kearns.

Steve is a former Creative Director for Core Concepts, a graphic design company. Dave Kearns is the Editor and Production Manager of The College View.

Richard Waghorne to address Society.

Richard Waghorne, journalist.

On Monday 1st March Mr. Richard Waghorne, Chief Political Commentator for the Daily Mail, will address the society on political commentary and will kick of a debate on the need for a conservative media outlet in Ireland.

This talk will take place in CG12 of the Henry Grattan Building at 6.30pm.

This is one of Mr. Waghorne’s last addresses in Ireland before he moves to London to take up a role in the Group’s UK headquarters.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to participate in what many eagerly anticipate to be a exciting and entertaining debate.

A wine reception will be held at the end of the debate.
