DCU media
The College View
The College View is DCU’s independent newspaper. It is separate from both the University and the Students’ Union. The paper is staffed by students from all faculties and always open to new writers.
The paper has five sections; News, News Features, Sport, Health and Comment. The paper also includes a Arts supplement known as Flux.
The paper is circulated every two weeks.
Flashback
Flashback is DCU’s independent award-winning arts magazine, under the umbrella of Journalism Society. The magazine is a bi-annual glossy celebration of art, music, fashion, lifestyle, culture, photography and features.
Flashback takes little slices of the outside world and incorporates them into the DCU environment. We showcase the life of a dcu student with pieces on relationships, accomodation, night life, eating out as students while offering insights and articles on up and coming Irish talent like musicians, designers and movements.
Under the leadership of Patrick Hanlon and Fiona Sherlock this year, Flashback promises to be bigger, bolder and brighter than ever! Check us out on Facebook and Twitter Flashbackdcu and if anyone is interested in getting involved, writing a piece or even has a few comments to make our email address is flashbackdcu@gmail.com
DCUfm
DCUfm is the home-grown student radio station of Dublin City University. The station broadcasts directly from our ‘goldfish bowl’ in The Hub, DCU’s main student centre. The staff is made up entirely of volunteers, and all students are welcome to get involved – regardless of how much or how little time they can commit, or what course their doing.
DCUfm regularly attracts the top names in showbiz and politics. So far this year we have had full-length interviews with the likes of Senator David Norris, The Fonz (AKA Henry Winkler), Education Minister Batt O’Keeffe, Director, RTÉ’s George Hamilton, former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, Xerosun, Labour finance spokesperson Joan Burton, Carosel, Mike Got Spiked, and Fine Gael’s finance spokesperson Richard Bruton.
We’re also home to the best music mix on radio – from today’s best music, to indie and classics, we simply play good music regardless of what year it was released. DCUfm has no commercial pressures, we’re independent people who just want to produce good radio for more hours per day than any other college radio station. DCUfm offers you the news and sport information you need, and the arts and music programmes you want.
DCUtv
This year DCUtv has taken on a new lease of life with its many different aspects making it a rewarding and vibrant experience for all involved. So far DCUtv has held workshops on how to use the camera, how to use mac software like final cut and After Effects. This is all in preparation for the promotional videos we make, DCUtv News and entertainment videos.
DCUtv aims to assist people in learning the basics and then brings them on board with commissioned projects. In the past few weeks DCUtv have produced promotional videos for campus residence, in the “Cribs” style, promotional videos for the charity Judo For Peace, 3 Spoof trailers for student recruitment to promote DCU to prospective students and many more.
DCUtv news is also produced by the team which covers events on campus and sporting events off campus. DCUtv also work very closely with other clubs and societies in creating packages for their events, such as a VT for stars in their eyes for when each act introduced themselves before they went onto stage.
